The Tiny Pony Waiting Outside the Bedroom Door
Imagine opening your bedroom door in the morning and coming face to face with a miniature pony.
That is exactly what happens to guests staying in a unique rural getaway in Nottinghamshire. There, an old barn has been transformed into a cozy accommodation, and the experience is unlike anything most people have ever had. The reason has four legs and a name.
Basil.
Basil is a twelve year old Shetland pony who spends the night just a couple of meters away from the bedroom door. Not somewhere out in a distant field. Not as a short daytime attraction. Basil is quite literally part of the stay.
The idea belongs to host Brittany Sparham, who wanted to create something genuinely different. Not just another countryside escape. Not simply charming or picturesque. Her goal was to give guests a real connection, an experience they would remember long after they left.
And that is exactly what happens.
Staying there does not feel like booking accommodation. It feels like meeting someone. Basil is present, calm, and curious, turning an overnight stay into something personal and unexpectedly emotional.
For animal lovers, it is close to perfect. You wake up, open the door, and Basil is right there, as if greeting you with a silent good morning.
It is the kind of moment that feels unreal until it happens. And once it does, it is almost impossible to forget.
